Alcohol Abstinence in Drinkers with Atrial Fibrillation

To the Editor: The randomized, controlled trial conducted by Voskoboinik et al. (Jan. 2 issue)¹ showed a lower recurrence and burden of atrial fibrillation among patients who reduced their alcohol consumption than among matched controls at 6 months of follow-up. In the trial, only 37.9% of the patients had continuous rhythm monitoring, whereas most of the rest of the patients reported their rhythm using a mobile phone application, with a median of 257 electrocardiographic (ECG) tracings per patient during follow-up.
