Five-Year Risk of Stroke after TIA or Minor Ischemic Stroke
To the Editor: In their study of the 5-year risk of stroke after transient ischemic attack (TIA) or minor ischemic stroke from the TIAregistry.org project, Amarenco et al. (June 7 issue)1 report that the rate of cardiovascular events was 6.4% in the first year and the same in the second through fifth years. They also indicate that multiple infarctions at baseline were independently associated with the risk of stroke in the first year2 but not with the risk in the second through fifth years. This finding perhaps relates to the mechanism of multiple infarctions,3 a high-risk period after TIA or . . .
