SUBSCRIPTION AND ACTIVATION

How do I activate my institution’s site license?
After your order is processed, you will receive an e-mail that contains your account information and customer number.  Use the link provided to begin the activation process.  Administrators will create their own personal My NEJM accounts as part of the activation process.  Site-license administrators are responsible for maintaining up-to-date information on their institutional accounts, i.e., IP addresses, branding, and link resolvers through the Institution Administration Center

Can I use the same e-mail address to administer my site license and get access to NEJM.org as an individual?

Administrators who currently have an administrative account for their institution and an individual subscriber account using separate e-mail addresses should contact us to combine them under one e-mail address.

If you are an administrator who does not currently have an individual subscription, but wishes to purchase one, you may do so by signing in with your administrator account, and clicking the “Subscribe” link. Your individual subscription will automatically be linked to the institution.

I can’t use IP-based access. Will NEJM offer concurrent-user access in the future?

NEJM currently has no plans to offer institutional licenses to NEJM.org on a concurrent-user access basis. Institutions that seek this type of access may contact other distributors who may be able to do so. We do not support the sharing of login information as a means for access.

Why am I and members of my institution community seeing an offer for PowerPoint slides?
PowerPoint Slides and SlideSets are not included in a site license subscription, but for a limited time, we are offering institutional users an opportunity to access PPT slides free for 6 months, when they create an individual My NEJM account or sign-in to their individual account.

Can the Print Subscription Plus 5 Workstations be used at five different physical sites?

Yes. This is acceptable as long as each workstation is physically located on the premises of, and controlled by, the institution that purchases this type of subscription access.

Is access via proxy server permitted under the Print Plus 5 Workstations license?

No, proxy server access is not permitted.  The Print Plus 5 Workstations license is intended for use with five workstations only.

MANAGING YOUR INSTITUTION’S ACCOUNT

I am a site licence administrator.  Do you have a guide for managing my account?
Yes; please download our Guide for Institutional Administrators

How do I verify or update my username/password, e-mail address, or other account information?
As an administrator, you will have your own My NEJM account.  Once you are signed into NEJM.org, look for the link to My NEJM at the top right of the page. There, you will also see a link to Manage Your Account; this will bring you to your my NEJM account.

I forgot my password. How can I retrieve my account information?

You may reset your password by clicking on “Sign-In” and selecting the “Forgot Password” link. An e-mail will be sent to the e-mail address associated with your account with instructions for resetting your password. Your password should be 6 to 20 characters long.

Pleasecontact us for further assistance with your password.

Help with IP Addresses

An IP address is the numeric address of a computer connected to the Internet.  On most networks, each computer has its own IP address. An IP address is not the same as a domain name or an e-mail address.

All of our institutional subscription options require you to input IP addresses in order to provide access for your users. By inputting your institution’s IP addresses, you are uniquely identifying the eligible machines on your network and allowing access only to authorized users of your subscription.

You can add your institution’s IP address(es) using the Institution Administration Center. Note that there is a description field, alongside the IP entry field.

This field is optional, but you can use it to describe the IP address(es) that you are entering.  For example, one IP address might be the university library, while another might be the science lab. Use the description field to distinguish between the two.

There are a few rules that you must follow when entering an IP address:

All IP addresses contain 4 numeric segments, up to 3 characters long, and separated by periods (ex. nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn).
Place each IP address or range in the box provided, following these rules:The only characters allowed are numbers, colons , (:), periods (.), and asterisks (*).  Dashes are not accepted.
The allowed values for the first segment are 1-223.
The allowed values for segments 2, 3, 4 are 0-255.  You can enter a range in the last segment by using a colon (:).

To verify your IP address: Visit http://www.nejm.org/action/showIdentities and note the IP address present on the page, or send us a screenshot and we can identify it for you.

Please contact us if you are still having trouble inputting your IP addresses.

Help with COUNTER reports (July 2010 to present)
COUNTER-compliant usage reports are available via e-mail delivery in XML, HTML, and tab-delimited format using the Email Reports function on the Usage Reports tab of the Institution Administration Center. You can select the time period for which you want the reports, specify any additional recipients, and opt-in to be notified when COUNTER reports become available each month.

Note that in order to get an accurate COUNTER report count for the month of July, 2010, you will need to combine the July 2010 report in the zip file with the July 2010 report that is generated via e-mail.  We’re sorry for any inconvenience that this causes.  Reports from August 2010 forward are available in their entirety should be generated using the Email Reports function at the top of the page.

Please contact us with questions about your COUNTER reports, or if you are having trouble accessing them.

Help with SUSHI

SUSHI (Standardized Usage Statistics Harvesting Initiative) is a way for you to harvest your institution’s COUNTER reports automatically; eliminating the need for you to obtain it yourself.

We provide access to COUNTER 3 reports through the SUSHI protocol, version 1.6. Supported reports include COUNTER Journal reports JR1, JR1A, JR3, JR4 and Consortium report 1. Learn more about how to get started with SUSHI at the NISO website.

Please contact us if you need help configuring your SUSHI client or have other questions about SUSHI.

Help with Old COUNTER Reports (2005 – July 2010)
COUNTER reports from 2005 to July 2010 are available in a zip file at the bottom of the Usage Reports tab of the Institution Administration Center. Each report is a tab-delimited file.

You will only find partial data for the month of July 2010 in this .zip file, due to a platform transition we undertook on July 24, 2010.  The data from July 2010 will need to be added to the July 2010 reporting data that you obtain through the e-mail reports function at the top of the Institution Administrator Center.

Please contact us if you have questions about this.

Help with Institutional Branding
You can upload your institution’s logo and name on the Branding and Link Resolvers tab of the Institution Administration Center. The logo and name will be displayed to members of your community accessing through your IP Addresses. It can be found at the top right of most pages on NEJM.org.

We support up to 50 characters of text, and a logo size of 100 x 50 pixels, in .jpg, .gif, or .png format. Contact us if you have questions or are having trouble uploading your graphics.

Help with Link Resolvers (OpenURL)

Already Have OpenURL?
You can configure OpenURL directly within the Branding and Link resolvers tab of the Institution Administration Center. Redirects are in place, so you can continue to construct your links to NEJM using one of the following configurations:
