The entry for 1985 on the timeline (page 2018) should have read “FDA-commissioned report concludes that artificial trans fats affect serum cholesterol levels similarly to the monosaturated fat oleic acid” rather than “FDA-commissioned report concludes trans fats and saturated fats affect cholesterol similarly.” The timeline has been corrected on the Journal's Web site at www.nejm.org.
