Meckel's Diverticulum
N Engl J Med 1999; 340:31January 7, 1999
- Article
Figure 1 A 50-year-old obese man who sustained a closed traumatic injury to the abdomen in a motor vehicle accident was taken to the operating room, where a splenectomy was performed for a splenic laceration. He was also found to have several contusions in the mesentery of the small intestine, including one at the site of a Meckel's diverticulum. No resection was necessary. As with most patients, he had had no symptoms as a result of this diverticulum, and he recovered from surgery uneventfully.
