Figure 1 Uric Acid Stones in Crohn's Disease.
An intravenous urogram was obtained in a 37-year-old woman with persistent watery diarrhea. She had had Crohn's disease for 11 years, and most of her colon and part of her ileum had been removed 4 years earlier. A large radiolucent defect occupies most of the left renal pelvis (large arrow), and a smaller defect obstructs the lower pole calix of the left kidney (small arrow). The right kidney appears to be normal. Three years after this study was performed, similar stones developed in the right kidney. These were found to contain uric acid.
