Figure 1 Membranous Glomerulonephritis.

A transmission electron micrograph (Panel A) shows a cross section of a glomerular capillary loop with the typical changes of membranous glomerulonephritis (x5300). Large, electron-dense deposits are visible on the outer aspect of the glomerular basement membrane, with interposition of basement-membrane material that forms “spikes.” A fluorescence photomicrograph (Panel B) reveals the IgG composition of these immune deposits within the glomerular capillary wall (x72).
