A specimen from the wall of the ascending aorta was excised from a 55-year-old patient at the time of aortocoronary bypass grafting. In a Sudan-stained cryosection viewed under polarized light, cholesterol (open arrow) and neutral lipid deposits (solid arrow) are evident in this atherosclerotic lesion (x710).
