Statement on NEJM Archiving
NEJM Online provides access to content beginning with January 1975. Abstracts (only) are available from 1975 to 1992. Full text content begins with the first issue of 1993.
On a continual basis, all individuals worldwide may access the following content without registration or charge, for personal use: Original and Special articles older than six months; Abstracts; extracts (first 100 words of articles without Abstracts); and early-release content of significant public-health importance.
Institutions may gain access to the complete repository of full text articles at NEJM Online under either a workstation agreement, or a broader site-wide license.
NEJM is a participant in the LOCKSS project at Stanford University.
Archival print copies: each institution with an active site license to NEJM Online is eligible for one institutional print subscription at a reduced rate, to facilitate the maintenance of archival paper repositories.
Legacy content: NEJM will be digitizing its full text content from 1992 back to Volume 1, Number 1 (1812) within the near future.
NEJMs content in its entirety is preserved on microform, available from the National Archive Publishing Company:
www.napubco.com.
Statement on Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
Librarians at institutions with licensed access to NEJM Online may, on
occasion, supply single copies of materials from NEJM Online to a noncommercial
library located in the same country as the Licensee in accordance with
Licensees interlibrary loan procedures, whether by post, facsimile,
or digital transmission, provided that (1) a written notice is sent to
the borrowing library stating that any electronic copy must be deleted
immediately after printing and that the end user can only receive a single
paper copy; and (2) the Licensee has a good faith belief that such notice
is being complied with.
Statement on Coursepacks and Electronic
